The Early Childhood Center, located at Bridge Street School and led by Barbara Black, Early Childhood Coordinator, supports the families and the young children of Northampton.  Please call with any questions.

THINGS WE DO/WAYS WE HELP:

CFCE: The Coordinated Family and Community Engagment Grant supports services and activities throughout the city. Click here for updated events, STORYWALKS, information on PCHP, Northampton Parent Centers and The Hadley Playgroup, and more!

NORTHAMPTON PUBLIC SCHOOL PRESCHOOL: The Northampton Public Schools Early Childhood Center at the Bridge Street School offers a half day (morning and afternoon), 4 day-a-week, integrated preschool classes for 3 and 4 year old children who live in Northampton, Florence, and Leeds.

The program includes children who are typically developing as well as those with special needs. The Northampton integrated preschool setting allows all children to particpate to their fullest capacities in the mainstream of education. Special support services are provided within the classroom as needed.

SPECIAL NEEDS: Under construction

PARENT EDUCATOR/EARLY CHILDHOOD SPECIALIST:  Kimm Quinlan, our Early Childhood Specialist/Parent Educator, has more than 20 years of experience in the field of Early Childhood Education.  She works closely with Barbara Black, and is here to help if you have concerns about your child's development, or if you have any parenting questions/concerns or need support about parenting issues.During the school year, we also provide parent workshops on a varity of topics.

Parent Workshop Topics have included: Routines, Transitions, Sleep, Behavior Management Strategies, Eating

KINDERGARTEN and KINDERGARTEN TRANSITION: The transition to kindergarten is an exciting time for both the child and the parent/guardians/family, but it can also be a time of questions, concerns, and fears. Barbara Black has been supporting families through this process since 1996; she understands the excitements and the fears, and has probably heard every question there is in this landmark transition. The district has many supports in place to help your child transtion to kindergarten. Please call or email Barbara if there's any support your family needs. She loves talking to parents/guardians!
