Dear Parents/Guardians:

We are so pleased to welcome you to the new school year at the Robert K. Finn Ryan Road Elementary
School! We will do all we can to ensure a happy and successful year for your child(ren)! A new school year
always brings excitement, learning, friendships, and fun.

School (for students in grades 1-5) will begin Wednesday, August 30. We will have our 2nd day of school on
Thursday, August 31, and then, we do not have school again until Tuesday, September 5 (the first day of
school for kindergarten). I have included a District Calendar with this letter for your information. Our school
hours are 8:50-3:00. Our district elementary schools provide adult supervision for students beginning at 8:30.
Please do not drop off students to Ryan Road School before this time. Parents are welcome (not required) to
join us on the playground in the morning where children will have the opportunity to greet their classmates,
enjoy some active outdoor play, and line up to enter with their teacher at 8:50. School breakfast is served in
the cafeteria at 8:30, and students or guardians who wish to put money on the student lunch card may do so
between 8:30-8:50. You can also use online pay. School lunch prices are $2.75-full price and $.40-reduced
lunch. Breakfast prices are $1.25-full price and $.30 reduced. Milk is $.50.

**Bus transportation for eligible students will begin August 30 (sorry about the error in the letter mailed
home!). Please call Joy Winnie, Transportation Director, in order to get bus passes on time. You can also ask
her any transportation questions at 587-1337.

You can always find out about what is going on at school through these formats:

• The bi-weekly Bear Facts Family Newsletter (sent home with your child and/or emailed online—you will be
asked your preference at the beginning of the school year)
• The school web page (address listed at the top of this letter). I keep the calendar up to date, there is staff and
other school information, and I always write a “Principal’s Weekly Update” and include a few photos from the
previous week. All of the Bear Facts from the year will also be included on our web site.

Many families ask about purchasing school supplies for the new school year. If your child’s teacher would like
anything specific purchased, he/she will send a letter. Other than backpacks, we like to provide most of the
supplies needed. However classroom teachers always appreciate classroom donations of Kleenex and Clorox
wipes.

We are all looking forward to a terrific school year working with you and your children. We hope you will
take advantage of the many opportunities to be involved in our school community. Please feel free to call the
office at 587-1550 if you have questions or concerns or if you just want to stop by to visit. Throughout the
year, please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions or concerns. I hope that all families feel welcome,
comfortable, and valued at our school.

Sincerely,

Sarah Madden, Principal (On behalf of the whole school community!)
